High school spring roundup: Conway Christian softball, soccer and baseball; Mayflower baseball

Conway Christian opened its softball season Tuesday with an 18-10 victory over Rose Bud.

After Rose Bud took a 2-0 lead, CCS scored three in the third, sparked by a bases-loaded double by Hannah Cates. The Lady Eagles broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth.

The Lady Eagles were led by Cates and Rebecca Watkins with three hits each. Haley Carter, Katie Dather  and Mary-Morgan Ellis had two hits. Dather, a freshman pitcher, gave up three hits and had six strikeouts.

The Lady Eagles host Sacred Heart Thursday afternoon.

MAYFLOWER VS. CCS BASEBALL

MAYFLOWER — The Mayflower Eagles (1-0) opened up their baseball regular season with a 10-4 victory over Conway Christian on Tuesday night.

Conway Christian scored in the first inning as Josiah Smith drove in two runs. Seth Smith increased the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the second.

Mayflower scored four runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run single from Tyler Godwin and a two-run double by Garrett Taylor.

Mayflower scored four more in the third, batting around with Michael Post. Tyler Herrin, Jordan Burns and Drew Duncan all contributing. Mayflower scored two in sixth on an RBI single from Quick and a Conway Christian error. Conway Christian scored the final run in the seventh on Smith’s RBI.

Jared Rippee (1-0) recorded the win for Mayflower going seven innings with three strikeouts. Chandler Ferrand took the loss for Conway Christian.

Mayflower was led at the plate by Duncan, who went 3 for 3 and Michael Post, who went 3 for 4. Tyler Herrin and Jordan Burns also had two hits each.

Smith who went 2 for 4 with three RBI.

CCS SOCCER

At Vilonia, Conway Christian opened its soccer season with a 2-0 victory over Vilonia.

KaleighCochran and Laila Sulieman scored goals for the Lady Eagles.

“Great win for our growing program”, said coach Ancil Lea.
