Winter weather and ice have frozen the state high school basketball tournaments in their tracks.
For the second straight day Tuesday, Arkansas Activities Association officials had to revamp the schedule for the start of the tournaments throughout the state because of weather conditions and safety issues for participants and fans.
All state tournaments, including the 7A hosted by Conway, will now begin Thursday, and the quarterfinals and semifinals will extend into next week.
Originally, state tournament play was scheduled to start for Classes 6A, 5A, 3A, 2A and 1A on Tuesday and for 7A and 4A on Wednesday. Monday the AAA postponed all scheduled games for Tuesday and moved the games to Wednesday. The AAA decided on Tuesday to delay the opening round one more day, postponing all Wednesday play.
If weather permits, Class 7A and 4A will play tournament games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, with the semifinals now set for Monday.
Tournament play for Class 6A, 5A, 3A, 2A and 1A will be on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.
Teams that advance to the state championship games will have a short turnaround before the state championship games, which will begin next Thursday at Hot Springs.
