Faulkner basketball roundup: Mayflower reaches district finals; all-Conway boys junior high matchup

LITTLE ROCK — Mayflower’s senior boys advanced to the championship game of the the 5-3A district tournament with a 52-48 victory over Benton Harmony Grove.

Hayden Long and Drew Duncan hit some key 3-pointers to help Mayflower hold on in a game that was tightly contested from the beginning. Long went six for six on the free-throw line to secure the victory.

J.P. Perry led with 15 points and Long added 14. Justin Bailey had 10.

The Eagles (21-5)play Episcopal Collegiate in Friday night’s title game.


Sixth-seeded Conway Blue led from the berginning in defeating second-seeded Lake Hamilton on Thursday in the boys semifinal of the Central Arkansas Junior High tournament.

D.J. Henson scored 12 points for the Blue and Darius Tate added 11. Seth Long had eight points, Gentrell Taylor, five, and Deston Macon four.

The Blue will play the fourth-seeded White team in an all-Conway boys final at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Buzz Bolding Arena. The two teams have met three timees this year with the White winning, 44-29 and 52-37.

In the girls final at noon Saturday, No. 6 Mount St. Mary will play top-seeded North Little Rock.
