Faulkner basketball roundup: It was close for St. Joseph teams at against Western Yell County

HAVANA — St. Joseph’s senior basketball teams both came from behind to secure narrow victories Thursday night here.

The Bulldogs (16-6, 5-1) trailed by five with four minutes to go, then rallied for a 44-42 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed most of the game before pulling out a 44-39 win.

For the Bulldogs, Dylan Schrekenhofer led with 21 points, five rebounds and three steals. Nash Nichols added nine points and six rebounds. Taylor Schrekenhofer had five points, five rebounds and three assists. William Fields had six points and three assists. Landon Enderlin added three points and four assists.

“We showed a tremendous amount of heart and determination,” said St. Joseph coach Brent Bruich. “We made all the plays down the stretch. This was a great win against a good team in a tough environment. Our mental toughness is getting stronger and better. We have got to keep persevering the rest of the season.”

Anna Mayor scored 13 points in the girls game while Madeline Moix added 11 and seven rebounds. Rachel Briggler had seven points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Meagan Briggler had seven points and Taylor Womack, six.

“We were fortunate to come out with a win,” said St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier. “I give the girls credit for their poise late in the game. We executed and did a good job making our free throws.”

St. Joseph (10-7, 2-1) won the junior boys game, 35-16.

Triple Williams had 12 points and six rebounds. Gage Berger added 12 points and seven rebounds. David Beck had five points and four assists. Brad Vandiviere added three steals and two assists. David Beck had two steals and two assists. Jacob Welter had two assists.

RUTH DOYLE 7TH GIRLS

Ruth Doyle’s seventh-grade girls romped past Ray Simon, 31-6, Thursday night.

Asiyha Smith led all scorers with 17 points while Reagan Roetzel added 10, Tamia Wiseman and Courtney Rhoades had two each.

Ruth Doyle won the B game, 8-6. Chloe Anderson and Kindreona Black each had points.

The girls and boys will play again Monday against Carl Stuart.
