Conway’s volleyball team swept Russellville in both varsity and junior varsity play Tuesday night on the Lady Cyclones’ “Dig Pink” night in Russellville.
The Lady Cat varsity won, 25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 25-15.
Alexa Hreha had 16 kills and 14 digs. Allison Weatherly had 10 kills and four blocks. Sara Nethercutt added 56 assists and seven digs.
In JV play Conway won, 11-25, 26-24, 15-9.
Maddie McNew had 12 kills. Morgan Mourot added 22 assists. Tori Popham had 11 digs.
Conway’s tennis teams recently split matches against Cabot.
The boys team lost to the Panthers, 4-2. The girls won, 5-3.
For the boys, Kristian Lenser downed Seth Smith, 9-7 and Lincoln Reynolds and Adam Barnett won a doubles match against the Baldwin-Kiihng team, 8-4.
Ryan Majors lost to Ty Majors, 8-6; and Alex Brewington lost to John Long, 6-4. Matt Evans and Robbie Coan and Will Morris and Carson Wallace narrowly lost their doubles matches.
In girls play, Andrea Moore won, 6-0, and Paten Denton won, 6-1. Denton and Moore won a pair of doubles matches, 8-4 and 6-0. Drew Thompson and Alexis Rogers won another doubles match, 6-2. Rogers and Faith Guidry narrowly lost singles matches and Maegan Langley and Brooke Humbert lost in doubles.
GREENBRIER CROSS COUNTRY
Greenbrier’s senior boys cross country team won the Warrior Invitational on Tuesday at Clarksville.
Leading the way for the Panther boys was a third-place overall finish by Austin Sitzes, who finished the 5K in 17:57. He was followed by Ryan Beegle’s seventh-place finish in 18:39. Other to finishes for the Panthers were Ryan Treat, eighth, 18:51; and Rayce Baker, 10th, 19:02. Ryan Treat’s 8th place finish in 18:51 and Rayce Baker’s 10th place overall time of 19:02. Other Greenbrier runners were Gabe Bray, Hunter Glover and Andrew Cook. Taking second and third place behind Greenbrier in the team results were Greers Ferry West Side and Clinton.
The Greenbrier junior boys also won, besting Subiaco Academy and third place Dardanelle. Ian Kelly led the Panthers with a seventh-place finish in 12:32 for the two-mile course. Ethan Smith ran a 13:04, Colton Ray a 13:12, Caleb Galloway a 13:47.22 and Cain Newton a 13:47.47. Corbin Pack was the final Greenbrier runner.
Rachel Barnhardt again led the junior girls with a fourth-place overall finish on the two-mile course in 13:52. Greenbrier’s girls finished third behind Pottsville and Dardanelle. The other junior girl finishers in order were Allisyn Sitzes, Jailen Griffen, Jayden Glover, Carson Matthews, Shelby Duke, and Lydia Morgan.
Saturday, the Greenbrier senior boys were ninth out of 15 teams at the Cyclone Invitational at Russellville. Leading the Panthers were Sitzes, Beegle and Baker. The junior boys were 10th place of 17 teams at the Cyclone Invitational led by Kelly’s 21st out of 240 runners. He clocked a 12:43.27 on the two-mile course near the Arkansas River.
