St. Joseph’s volleyball team opened the season this week in what coach Luke Davis described as “the good, the bad and the ugly.”
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Perryville, 25-17, 25-10, 25-7; Episcopal Collegiate, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-7; then lost at Atkins, 25-22, 25-15, 12-25, 25-19.
“It was good to start off with a conference win at Perryville,” said coach Luke Davis. “It was also good to beat a good Episcopal team that we could see later on in the season. It was bad to end the week with a conference loss. At times this week our play was very ugly. It’s early, though, and we have time to fix a few issues.”
For the week, Megan Briggler had 18 kills, Holly Rega, 10, and Madeline Moix, nine. Moix led in serving at 36 of 40 and had four blocks. Lindsey Hoelzeman had 12 aces. Rachel Briggler had 48 assists. Sydney Spradlin had 45 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs won JV games against Perryville (25-25, 25-17), Episcopal (25-23, 24-26, 15-11) and Atkins (23-25, 25-13, 15-9).
