Arkansas Activities Association officials follow history in state and regional tournament site selection

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Following recent trends, the Arkansas Acitivities Association Board of Directors set state and regional tournament sites for spring and fall sports Thursday.

The board has usually placed an emphasis on communities that have new arenas and on alternating regional sites geographically in the region. An emphasis is also placed on keeping the baseball and softball state tournaments at the same site or a nearby community.

The 7A basketball tournament will be hosted by Fayetteville, which has a new gymnasium. The division’s athletic directors and administrators have traditionally agreed to submit a single bid and rotate the host site between the Central and Northwest. Cabot hosted the event last season.

The closest host sites to Conway are regional baseball and softball tournaments at Bee Branch, soccer state tournaments in North Little Rock and Cabot and next year’s 7A volleyball state tournament at Cabot.
