St. Joseph sweeps Conway Christian in basketball games

In the usual battle of Faulkner County Class 2A rivals, St. Joseph swept Conway Christian in two basketball games Tuesday night at the CCS gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (17-2, 3-0) outscored the Eagles 18-11 in the third quarter on the way to a 62-47 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs (9-10, 2-1) led 34-27 after three quarters and held on for a 50-47 victory.

“It was a hard-fought game,” said St. Joseph boys coach Brent Bruich. “Both teams played hard and showed lots of effort. We’ve got to play more consistent on both ends of the floor. We had too many missed layups and missed blockouts that will hurt us down the road. We must execute better.”

Andrew Beck led the Bulldogs with 21 points and four assists. Cole Schichtl had 10 points and five rebounds and Drew Bates added 11 points. Drake Cooper had 11 points and five rebounds. Andrew Kordsmeier had five points and four rebounds. Landon Enderlin had four assists and Nash Nichols three steals.

In the girls game, Meagan Briggler led with 15 points. Anna Mayor had 11 and seven rebounds. Rachel Briggler had seven points and five assists. Morgan Kordsmeier had seven points and Madeline Moix five. Taylor Womack had seven rebounds and five assists.

“Our girls made some good plays late in the game and hit some timely free throws late,” said St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier. “This was a good road win for the girls.”

In junior boys, St. Joseph (11-3, 1-0) won 38-25. David Beck had 12 points and six rebounds. Owen Echols and Nathan Hambuchen added 10 points. Landon Bruich and Hambuchen had five rebounds. Noah Bray added four assists.

GREENBRIER

CLARKSVILLE — Greenbrier’s senior girls evened their conference mark at 1-1 Tuesday with a 32-16 victory over Clarksville.

Aundrea Hardin led the Lady Panthers with 10 points. Bailey Reynolds had seven and Kenzie Batterton six.

In senior boys action, Clarksville defeated the Panthers, 76-47. Jordan

Wilcox scored 17 points for Greenbrier.

Greenbrier teams will host Harrison on Friday.

VILONIA

MORRILTON — Vilonia’s Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 in 5A West on Tuesday with a 47-41 victory over Morrilton.

Ashlyn Hightower and McKenzie Morris led Vilonia (14-1) with 12 points each and Morris led in rebounding with

10. Audrey Moran added 10 point and Hannah Schnebelen had eight points. Rebecca McCoy led Morrilton with 10 points.

Vilonia will host Huntsville on Friday night.

MAYFLOWER

JESSIEVILLE — Jessieville took a 65-61 double-overtime victory over Mayflower on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 51 at the end of regulation.

Dane Richardson led the Eagles (9-3, 4-2) with 22 points. Drew Duncan added 12. Ross Gray and J.P. Perry added 11.

Jessieville won the senior girls game, 61-38, after leading by four at the end of the first quarter. LonJanae Wyatt led

Mayflower in scoring with 15 points. Raegan Bartlett had 10 points. Shelby Ryals had seven points. Jessica Webb had six points.

Mayflower’s junior girls lost for the first time in conference play, 22-19. Tristen Lasker had seven points for the Lady Eagles and Ali York six.

Mayflower teams will host Episcopal Collegiate on Friday.

GREENBRIER JUNIOR GIRLS

MORRILTON — Greenbrier’s junior girls remained unbeaten in three conference games with a 41-24 victory over Morrilton on Monday.

Ali Skudlark led the Lady Panthers (8-4) with 16 points and Kory Westerman added 11. Emily Moore had seven points, Charli Short, three and Miranda Clendenin and Charlsey Dillion, two each.

Wilcox scored 17 points for Greenbrier.

In the eighth-grade game, the Lady Panthers picked up their first win of the year, 28-14. Addison Harmon had 10 points and Hollan Donham eight. Other scorers were: Ashley Barkley, four, and Reagin Langrell, Chasity Gandy, and Hannah Tilley, two each.

The Lady Panthers will be back in action Thursday at home when they host Russellville East.
