Six Hendrix College players have been selected to USA College Football’s NCAA Division III Preseason All-American Team.
Senior wide receiver Casey Caton was named to the first team, sophomore running back Dayton Winn and sophomore punter Spencer Smith were second team picks, sophomore kicker Steve Crenshaw was placed on the third team and sophomore defensive back Caleb Shannon and sophomore Travus McMahon were honorable mentions.
Caton, from Rogers, was a 2013 All-Southern Athletic Association First Team pick. He caught 56 passes for 805 yards and eight touchdowns and led the SAA in yards and yards per catch. Caton was also second in the league in touchdowns and third in receptions.
Winn, of Pea Ridge, was the 2013 SAA Newcomer of the Year and a First Team All-SAA selection. He ranked third in the NCAA with 1,971 all-purpose yards. Winn rushed 167 times for 821 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 49 catches, 421 yards and five scores. He also had 29 kick returns for 650 yards and a touchdown.
Smith, from Houston, Texas, earned All-SAA Honorable Mention honors as a punter and wide receiver last season. He recorded 39 punts for 1,493 yards and a 38.3 average, the 45th-best mark in the NCAA. He also had 42 catches for 443 yards and two touchdowns.
Crenshaw, of Texarkana, was an All-SAA Second Team pick during his freshman year. He was second in the league in points by a kicker with 61, going 37-of-40 on extra point attempts and 8-of-13 on field goals. Crenshaw also averaged 53.8 yards per kickoff with four touchbacks.
Shannon, from The Woodlands, Texas, was an All-SAA Honorable Mention and second in the league with 86 tackles. He also had three interceptions for 42 yards, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick.
McMahon, of Hernando, Miss., was a 2013 All-SAA Honorable Mention. He recorded 64 catches for 568 yards and six touchdowns, leading the league in receptions and tied for third in touchdowns. McMahon also had 16 kick returns for 361 yards and was third in the SAA with a 22.6 per return average.
The Warriors, under second-year head coach Justin “Buck” Buchanan, will open the 2014 season at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. on Sept. 6.
