Hendrix basketball players tour Italy

Hendrix College junior guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler and former center Jamie Tate recently finished a basketball tour of Italy while playing with Team USA for the American International Sports Tours.

The Warriors played with a team of fellow NCAA Division III players and went 3-1, with their only loss being to the top club team in Italy.

The team was coached by Kara Williamson of Rhodes Island College.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better group of teammates while in Italy,” said Kriesel-Bigler. “It was a great experience to be able go out on the court and represent your country and compete. The Italian clubs we played were very physical and competitive and fun to play against.”

Along with competing, the players had the opportunity to visit Rome, Vatican City, San Marino, the Bellagio, Milan and Florence.

Kriesel-Bigler is a point guard from Austin, Texas, and a two-time all-conference selection for the Warriors. She was the 2012-13 Southern Athletic Association Newcomer of the Year.

Tate, from Nashville, Tenn., was a three-time all-conference performer and the 2013-14 SAA Defensive Player of the Year. She ended her career as the Warriors’ career-leader with 1,247 rebounds and 12th with 1,043 points.
