Hendrix’s athletic facilities will reflect a flurry of activities this weekend as the Warriors host both the Southern Athletic Association softball tournament and track and field meet.
At other sites, Warrior teams will participate in conference championships in baseball tennis and golf.
Schools participating, in addition to Hendrix, are Berry, Birmingham-Southern, Centre, Rhodes, Millsaps, Oglethorpe and Sewanee.
The Warrior softball team, seeded fifth, will play fourth-seeded Rhodes at 10 a.m. Friday to begin the three-day tournament. The winner will play top-seeded Berry at 4 p.m. The loser will play at noon Saturday.
The championship round begins at noon Sunday.
TRACK AND FIELD
The track meet begins at 9 a.m. Friday at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium, with some events at the UCA’s Bill Stephens Complex, and continues through Saturday.
Freshman Stephen Stearman has the best men’s shot put mark in the league entering the championships at 13.88 meters. Freshman Jared Lincoln also has the best discus distance at 42.92 meters. Four-time All-America Elizabeth Krug enters the weekend with a javelin mark of 35.81 meters, tops in the SAA.
At other sites, The Warriors tennis teams will both be the No. 8 seeds and take on No. 1 Sewanee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Friday. The women will take on the Tigers at 9 a.m., and the men will start at noon.
The men’s golf team will tee off at 7 a.m. at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., on Friday. The women’s team will begin at the same time.
At Birmingham, the baseball Warriors will be the No. 5 seed and take on No. 4 Millsaps at 1 p.m. Friday. The winner of the four-team, double-elimination tournament will advance to the SAA Championship series against the winner from the Mount Berry, Ga., semifinal rounds.
