The UCA schedule also includes games and possible tournament matchups against defending national champion Oklahoma, Boston College, Michigan, Mississippi State and Stanford.

Hendrix women play first lacrosse match

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Hendrix College women’s lacrosse team will take to the field for the first time in program history Friday night Southwestern University. It will be the first women’s lacrosse game for an Arkansas intercollegiate varsity team.

The Warriors are coached by Peri West, who also started the program at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass. West won 21 games in three seasons (2010-12) while at the helm of the Mustangs.

Hendrix has 16 players from 10 different states on the roster.

“We have some great leadership and returning players from our club season as well as strong freshman talent from all over the country,” said West. “All members of the team will be valuable assets to our success this season.”

The Pirates are one of four first-year programs the Warriors will face — along with St. Mary’s (Ind.) and Defiance. Rhodes College is the only other new program in the Southern Athletic Association.

The first home game will be on Saturday, Feb. 22 against conference rival Berry College.

“Our first home game will not only be a historic event for our team, but for Hendrix College,” said West. “The athletic staff, boosters and Hendrix community are truly making it a special day in which we look forward to a tailgate, giveaways for the fans, T-shirts and more.

Harding too much for Hendrix in tennis

The Hendrix junior tandem of Robert Sheets and Bob Berardi played Mathaus Spiering and Jon Mark Rowden close, falling 8-5 in number one doubles. Freshmen Ian McVinney and Karthik Garimella lost 8-2 to Yann Le Mat and Brandon Hogland in the second flight.
