Hendrix’s Crenshw honored by conference
Hendrix College freshman kicker Steve Crenshaw has been named the Southern Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week.
He made a 25-yard field goal with one second remaining to give Hendrix a 46-44 win over Westminster (Mo.) in the program’s first game since 1960. Crenshaw made a 26-yarder as well and went four-for-five on extra points, with the miss being blocked.
Crenshaw and the Warriors will open SAA play with Birmingham-Southern College on the road on Saturday.
Warriors’ Pierce receives men’s soccer award
Hendrix College sophomore midfielder Jacob Pierce of Fulton, Mo. has been named the Southern Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.
He has scored all four goals on the year for the Warriors. Scoring one in each game, Pierce had the game winner in the season-opening 1-0 win against Westminster (Mo.) on Aug. 30. He also scored on a penalty kick in a 1-1 tie with Webster on Saturday.
Hendix volleyball player gets SAA citation
Hendrix College freshman middle blocker Jen Karnes was named the Southern Athletic Association Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
She hit .366 with 2.15 kills per set, six aces and 26 total blocks (1.00 per set) as the Warriors started the season 5-3. Against LeTourneau on Aug. 30, the Houston, Texas, native hit .611 with 11 kills, not making an error. She hit .889 with eight kills against Centenary on Aug. 31 and had nine total blocks against Lyon on the same day. On the season, Karnes has connected on 56 kills and made only 15 errors.
Karnes and the Warriors will travel to Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday and Sunday to take on SAA-rival Rhodes and compete in the Rhodes Invitational.
Warriors’ Hannah Sigda gets offensive honor
Hendrix College sophomore forward Hannah Sigda was named the Southern Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
She has scored six goals and three assists over the Warriors first five games of the year. All 12 of her shots on the year have been on goal, making half of them, and netting three game-winners. The Albuquerque, N.M. native scored a hat trick on Aug. 31 in a 3-2 win over Louisiana College. In a 3-0 win at Austin on Friday, Sigda netted two goals with an assist. At LeTourneau on Saturday she had a goal and two assists.
