College roundup: UCA softball and baseball

The University of Central Arkansas and Nicholls State split a doubleheader of tight games Saturday in softball at Farris Field.

The Bears’ Sarah Bigej hit a walkoff home run in the eighth inning to give UCA (12-13, 23-32) a 3-1 victory in the first game.

The Lady Colonels (10-15, 20-33) came back to take the second game, 2-1.

The teams play the rubber game of the series at noon Sunday.

 

UCA BASEBALL

Chris Townsend’s walkoff single in the 10th inning Friday gave the University of Central Arkansas (23-19, 11-11) a 2-1 victory over Oral Roberts in the opening game of a three-game series at Bear Stadium.

With UCA trailing 1-0 in the ninth, Townsend was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on Scott Zimmerle’s single.

Senior Bryce Biggerstaff (4-5) got the victory for the Bears, allowing 10 hits, striking out six and walking one.
