20th-ranked Louisiana shuts out Bears to close softball tourney

LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Central Arkansas softball team was shut out the second straight game by a nationally ranked team Sunday, losing 5-0 to host 20th-ranked Louisiana in the 2014 Ragin’ Cajun Invitational.

Fourth-ranked Michigan defeated the Bears (3-7), 7-0, Saturday.

Central Arkansas (3-7) managed just two hits, both singles by Sam Forrest and l Hannah Stirton. The Bears worked five walks and two hit batters from Louisiana starter Jordan Wallace. The Bears stranded 10 runners.

Freshman outfielder Briana Whisenhunt, who hit .417 with three doubles, two runs batted in, and a run scored, in five games, made the all-t0urnaemnt team.

UCA will play at Mississippi State on Wednesday, then host Alabama State, Drexel, Western Illinois and South Dakota State in the Central Arkansas Invitatioanl this weekend.
