Hendrix women win at Oglethorpe

HOUSTON — The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears survived a scare from Houston Baptist and kept their Southland Conference lead intact Saturday with a 57-55 victory over Houston Baptist.

Courtney Duever’s baseline jumper with three seconds left provided the margin of victory for the Sugar Bears (16-8, 10-3).

Houston Baptist (11-14, 7-7) led 32-23 at the half before UCA began the second half with a 23-9 run to make it a fight to the finish.


ATLANTA — Hendrix’s women’s basketball team won its fourth straight game Friday night with a 72-53 romp over Oglethorpe.

The Warriors (11-11, 5-6) moved into a tie for fourth place with Birmingham-Southern with three games to play before the SAA Tournament in two weeks. The Stormy Petrels fall to 4-18 overall and 2-9 in league play.

Freshman guard Taylor Neal led Hendrix with 17 points to go with three assists. Sophomore point guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler scored 16 points and hit four 3-pointers. Senior center Jamie Tate pulled down 13 rebounds and netted seven points.

Oglethorpe won the men’s game, 80-66. The Warriors fall to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in league play. They are tied for fifth place with Sewanee with three games to play before the SAA Tournament in two weeks. The Stormy Petrels improved to 18-4 and 8-3 and remain in second place.

Hendrix will take on Berry on Sunday.
