NW State steady at the line in victory over Bears

Northwestern State hit 14 of 15 free throws down the stretch while the University of Central Arkansas Bears were 14 of 26 for the game Thursday night as the Demons handed the Bears their fifth loss in Southland Conference play, 76-68.


The Bears (4-13, 1-5) drew within one point twice late in the second half before the Demons (6-11, 2-4) closed with a 19-12 run.

The Demons hit 31 of 37 free throws.

LaQuentin Miles, who scored his 1000th points for his career, lead the Bears with 23 points and eight rebounds, the only player in double figures.

Point guard Jalen West, 11 of 13 at the line, led the Demonds with 28 points.

The Bears host first-place Stephen F. Austin about 4 p.m. Saturday.
