The Sideline: UCA volleyball coaches to coach barefoot; two UCA basketball players to sit out nine games

UCA volleyball coaches to coach barefoot

The University of Central Arkansas volleyball coaches will be the first in the state Thursday night to coach in their bare feet.

Head coach David McFatrich and assistants John and Brittany Newberry will coach barefoot to raised awareness for Samaritan’s Feet, an organization that provides shoes to needy youngsters. Fans will be able to make donations throughout the match with Northwestern Louisiana. A shoe will be passed through the crowd for further donations. For a $10 donation, a wristband can be purchased that will buy shoes for a needy child.

The money raised at the Prince Center on Thursday night will go towards a shoe distribution project that will take place on Jan. 12.

UCA will host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

The NSU game begins at 7 p.m. Thursday. The SFA game is at noon Saturday.

2 players ineligible for UCA

Senior guard LaQuentin Miles and sophomore Terrell Brown are academically ineligible to play for the University of Central Arkansas men’s basketball team, according to coach Clarence Finley.

The players will miss the Bears’ first nine games and cannot play until Dec. 21.
