UCA women split with Northern Kentucky in Mercer softball tournament

MACON, Ga. – The University of Central Arkansas softball team extended its winning streak to eight games Saturday with a 6-0 win over Northern Kentucky, then lost to the Norse, 7-6, in the rematch of the Mercer Invitational.

Kelsie Armstrong (9-4) got the win for Central Arkansas, throwing all seven innings while allowing one hit and issuing six walks. She struck out three.

In the rematch in the afternoon, the Norse jumped to a 6-0 lead on the back of two three run innings. Taylor Barclay (3-2) took the loss for the Bears, giving up six runs on six hits and two walks in two innings. She struck out two. Ciara Clampitt was effective in four innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three. Cicely New threw the final inning for Central Arkansas, giving up one hit.

The Bears finish up the tournament Sunday, facing host Mercer.
