The University of Central Arkansas placed 90 athletes on the 2012 Southland Conference Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll list released Tuesday.
The 90 honorees represent the second most in the league and included 12 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. A record total of 979 student-athletes from the league schools made the honor roll, including 141 with 4.0 GPAs. Six universities had at least 80 honorees.
The SLC Commissioner’s Honor roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll recognizes athletes who maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
The spring honor roll includes student-athletes in baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
For UCA, a total of 16 softball players earned a spot on the honor roll, led by senior Katie McGregor, the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for UCA, who posted a 4.0 in marketing and management while earning second-team all-conference honors on the field. Fifteen baseball players were honored after leading the school to its first Southland tournament appearance. Seniors Blake Roberts and Bryan Willson earned spots on the baseball All-Academic teams, both with a 3.5 GPA in marketing and management and health education, respectively.
Two-time women’s basketball Player of the Year Megan Herbert led the Sugar Bears with a 3.2 GPA in undergraduate studies. Herbert led UCA to the regular-season title and a berth to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
The women’s track teams had six of the perfect 4.0 GPAs, while men’s track had two more and tennis and women’s golf each had one.
