Conway's Setzler repeats as SLC steeplechase champion

University of Central Arkansas senior Erika Setzler of Conway repeated as the 2014 Southland Conference champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday at the SLC Outdoor Championship on her home track at Bill Stephens Track Complex.

Setzler  ran a time of 10:20.56, beating Lamar’s Louise Webb by 6.22 and beating her own 2013 time of 10:31.90. Sophie Clauss finished 15th (12:16.90) and Brianna Stuepfert was 16th (12:33.63).

Setzler’s victory put the UCA women in third place behind Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin heading into the final day of action.

Samantha Gibson finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4,798 points, while Hadley Swanson was 10th (4,386). Anna Kirk finished 11th in the javelin (121.01). 

The UCA men stand in sixth place after two days of action. Senior Trey Carter finished fourth in the decathlon with 6,682 points, while Alex Miles was seventh (6,227) and Travis Nagle was 15th (5,475). Grant Williams finished ninth in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:36.77), while Ryan Davidson was 12th (9:59.09).

In the final event of the night, Carter finished sixth in the javelin with a distance of 185-07.

Anthony Farris-King finished 16th in the long jump (21.06).

Field events begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, with running finals beginning at 2 p.m.
