Bears move into seventh with sweep of Incarnate World

The University of Central Arkansas baseball team enhanced its postseason chances Sunday, completing a sweep of Incarnate Word with a 6-3 victory on Senior Day at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (26-21 14-13) are in seventh place with  a half-game lead over Lamar and Oral Roberts  with one series left against last-place New Orleans.



Seniors Bryce Biggerstaff, Justin Treece, Doug Votolato, and Scott Zimmerle were honored before the game.


Incarnate Word fell to 15-32, 6-15.


Josh Markel  earned his first save of the season. Connor Gilmore (5-3) picked up the win for Central Arkansas, allowing three unearned  runs and four hits over five innings of work while striking out five. Connor McClain of Conway gave up  just one hit and striking out five Cardinals over three innings of relief.


The Bears will travel to New Orleans for games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
