UCA's Pep Angles named to European Palmer Cup team

 University of Central Arkansas junior Pep Angles was named Thursday to the European team for the prestigious 2014 Palmer Cup.    

Angles, from Barcelona, Spain, was one of 10 players named to the European team based on Palmer Cup rankings. The United States and European teams will compete in a Ryder Cup-style competition on June 26-28 at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England.    

Angles, the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer and Student-Athlete of the Year in 2013, will join Jon Rahm (Arizona State) of Spain, Ricardo Gouveia (Central Florida) of Portugal, Erik Oja (Arizona) of Sweden, Thomas Detry (Illinois) of Belgium, James Ross (Houston) of Scotland, Paul Dunne (UAB) of Ireland, Grant Forrest (San Diego) of Scotland, Louis Tomlinson (UCLAN Myerscough) of England and Jack McDonald (Stirling) of Scotland. The coaches are Andrew Coltart of Scotland and Phil Rowe (Stanford) of England.    

             “I am so proud of Pep’s accomplishment,’ said Ryke Dismuke, UCA Director of Golf. “Every year, he has been with us he has been fully dedicated to improving his game, and making the Palmer Cup team has been one of his goals. To see his hard work pay off in such a big way is fantastic to see"   

              The U.S. team is composed of: Cameron Wilson (Stanford); Ollie Schiederjans (Georgia Tech); Robby Shelton (Alabama); Wyndham Clark (Oklahoma State); Brandon Hagy (California); Rico Hoey (USC); Bryaon Dechambeau (SMU); Anthony Maccaglia (Oglethorpe); Trey Mullinax (Alabama); and Stewart Jolly (LSU). They will be coached by Steve Desimone of Cal and Ryan Murphy of Texas.    

             The list of outstanding collegians that have participated include such names as; Luke Donald, Rory Sabbatini, Charles Howell III, Matt Kuchar, Jonas Blixt, Ben Curtis, 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover, Conway's e Bryce Molder, 2010 U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell, Bill Haas, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J.B. Holmes and Dustin Johnson.
