Colonels blank Bears to take Game 1

THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State's Taylor Bird held the University of Central Arkansas to four hits and struck out eight over seven innings Friday in leading the Colonels to a 4-0 victory over the Bears in the first game of a three-game seies.

It was the fourth loss in five games for the Bears (17-14, 6-7). the Colonels are 18-18, 9-4.


Doug Votolato led UCA by going 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

Stuart Holmes threw the final two innings for Nicholls, allowing a pair of hits and striking out five.


Bryce Biggerstaff (2-4) took the loss for Central Arkansas, surrendering three runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings of work.
