Distance events good to UCA at SLC Indoor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ On the strength of solid point production in the distance events, the University of Central Arkansas women finished fourth on Thursday at the 2014 Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.


The UCA women finished with 53 points and were fourth out of 14 teams. UCA’s men’s squad finished ninth out of 13 teams with 32 points.

Freshman Marine Lecart finished third and senior Kayla Nehus sixth in the women’s mile on Thursday. Lecart, from Waterloo, Belgium, ran a 4:59.98, while Nehus, from Little Rock, ran 5:05.57. Junior Jordan Chadwick of Bryant continued UCA’s strength in the distance events with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:16.55.

Sophomore Brooke Cassar, who won the 5K on Wednesday, finished third in the 3,000 meters on Thursday in 10:07.18. Senior Erika Setzler of Conway, runnerup in the 5K, was fifth in the 3,000 in 10:13.48.

Senior Tanesha Maxwell of Tampa finished fifth in the 60 meters in a time of 7.60.

Cassar finished fifth overall in individual points with 18, while Setzler was 11th with 12.

On the men’s side, sophomore Corentin Louis was runnerup in the men’s mile run in a school-record time of 4:12.88, breaking his record set earlier this season. The 4x400 relay team of Tevon Boyd, Kelton Ray, Chance Tanner and Darrell Johnson finished fifth in 3:17.24.
