Baseball-softball roundup: UCA and Hendrix baseball, UCA softball


Missouri State spoiled the baseball opener for the University of Central Arkansas with an 11-5 victory in the opener of a three-game series Friday at Bear Stadium.

The visiting Bears took command early and pounded out 13 hits. The hosts, coming off a 42-win season with almost an entirely new lineup, committed errors and had eight hits.

The University of Central Arkansas allowed 13 hits and recorded five errors in dropping their season opener 11-5 to Missouri State on Friday afternoon at Bear Stadium.

The visiting Bears scored two in the second, three in the fifth and four more in the seventh. UCA had a brief 4-3 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but MSU answered with three runs in the top of the next inning and never trailed again.

Justin Treece was three for four with a triple and two RBI.

UCA senior starter Bryce Biggerstaff allowed five earned runs in five innings, striking out five and walking one to pick up the loss.

Second game of the series is 2 p.m. Saturday.

Boston College one-hit the Bears (2-5) on the way to a 6-0 victory. Sam Forrest got the only hit for UCA.

The Bears came back later to defeat Valparaiso, 4-3.


FRISCO, Texas — Hendrix allowed five unearned runs on the way to a 6-5 loss to Puget Sound in the Warriors’ baseball opener Friday.

Seth Mobley and Wyatt Hogan went three for three for the Warriors. Collin Raddack and Matt Simmons each had two hits.
