The Central Arkansas women’s soccer team opened Southland Conference play on Friday night, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-1, at the Bill Stephens soccer complex.
Central Arkansas (4-3-2, 1-0-0 SLC) took the lead in the 13th minute, as Kristin Pollard collected a deflected shot from Conway's Brooke Ballard and putting it away for her first goal of the season. The Islanders (1-8-0, 0-3-0 SLC) got an equalizer in the 34th minute, when Hannah Joseph found Alyssa Miller on a breakaway. Ballard put the Bears ahead for good in the 75th minute, gaining control of a deflection and slamming it home to put Central Arkansas ahead, 2-1.
Kaitlyn Keith played the first half in goal for Central Arkansas, making one save and allowing one goal. Lyndzey Goff played the second half, making one save. Audrey Baldwin made six saves and allowed two goals in net for the Islanders.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Natchitoches, Louisiana to play Northwestern State.
