In the wake of a 24-23 loss to UT Martin, University of Central Arkansas coach Clint Conque says he is readjusting the playbook.
The Bears, after an 1-2 start, are doing a lot of things well, but they are making a few critical mistakes at critical times, Conque said at Monday's weekly Bearbacker luncheon.
"We are going back to fundamentals and hang our hat on things we can execute in all three phases," he said. "Until we master those, we are not going to add a whole lot of bells and whistles."
He took responsibility for what he described was a flat performance in the first half against the Skyhawks, resulting in a 14-0 deficit.
"We needed to have a sense of urgencyand it's my fault our kids didn't get that message," he said. "I've got to do a better job of preparing us to play hard early."
