University of Central Arkansas football coach Clint Conque said Monday he has never had a team play any harder than the Bears did in a 38-24 loss Saturday night to Colorado University at Boulder.
The Bears led 24-17 in the fourth quarter before succumbing to a 21-0 onslaught by the Pac-12 Buffaloes. The Buffs scored on two interception returns for a touchdown and took advantage of a fumble recovery late deep in UCA territory.
"We could have quit and lay down a couple of times, but there are no moral victories," Conque said at the weekly Bearbacker luncheon. "This one stung. We had the opportunity to close the deal and didn't get it done. You can't go on the road against a BCS team and give up 21 points.
"I can't fault the players or the coaches. We just have to execute better."
UCA, 1-1, continues a September road swing on Saturday at UT Martin.
