The University of Central Arkansas baseball team improved to 15-2 Tuesday with a 6-3 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Bear Stadium.
The Bears used 10 pitchers. Clint Green, Zach Barr and Connor Gilmore worked the first three innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits. Jon Rand, John Kordsmeier and Taylor Wallace threw the middle three innings, giving up one hit and recording a strikeout. Griffin Glaude, Blake Clayton, Connor McClain and Ethan McKinzie threw the final three innings. The quartet allowed two runs on a walk and a hit while striking out three. Gilmore (1-0) earned the win, his first as a Bear, and McKinzie earned the save.
Central Arkansas had 10 hits, drew seven walks, and was hit by the pitcher four rimes. Jonathan Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk, driving in two runs and scoring another. Garrett Brown was 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs.
UCA will play Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg in a weekend series.
Hendrix baseball
Texas-Tyler, the No 20-ranked team in NCAA Division II, defeated Hendrix, 10-5, in baseball at Warrior Field on Tuesday night.
The visiting Patriots (15-4) outhit the Warriors (5-12) 19-12. Hendrix also left 13 men on base. The Patriots scored four times in the top of the ninth to put the game away.
Ryan Ritz, Collin Radack, John Pounds and Brady Newville each had two hits for the Warriors. Tijerina hit three doubles for the Patriots and Martin and catcher Cayden Cunniff also had three hits each.
Sophomore lefty Cannon Schrank (0-2) gave up the go ahead runs in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss for Hendrix.
The Warriors will return to Southern Athletic Association play at Centre College for a three-game series beginning on Saturday.
Hendrix softball
CLARKSVILLE — The Hendrix College softball team split a doubleheader with the University of the Ozarks at Hurie Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The host Lady Eagles (7-9) took the first game 4-0, but the Warriors (8-4) rebounded to win the nightcap 16-5.
In the second game, Hendrix outhit Ozarks 13-9.
Paula Burr drove in five runs and tallied six total bases on the home run and double. Jill Sikes had two hits and four driven in and Michaela Larabee scored three times. Tiffany Hubbard also had three hits and scored twice and Shelby Anderson also crossed the plate three times. Freshman pitcher Kayla Patton went 2-for-2.
Patton (2-0) picked up the win by fanning three and giving up eight hits, four earned runs and a walk in 5.1 innings. Sophomore Lauren Whitby closed the game with one strike and allowing one hit in 1.2 innings. Lady Eagle Whitney Price (1-4) lasted 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits, eight earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts.
In the opener, Ozarks pitcher Amber Rollins (5-3) threw a three-hit, three-walk, six-strikeout shutout.
Hendrix will travel to Austin College for a doubleheader on Sunday in Sherman, Texas.
