KATY, Texas - Sam Houston State defeated the University of Central Arkansas men for the third time this season Wednesday night, thus ousting the Bears from the Southland Conference tournament with a 69-63 victory at the Merrell Center.
The Bears (13-17) were making their first appearance in the postseason tournament and had a four-game winning streak halted.
UCA led 29-28 before the Bearkats (16-16) took command for good with a 20-9 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Senior LaQuentin Miles led the Bears with 19 points. DeShone McClure added 16.
UCA shot 39.9 percent to the Bearkats' 47.1 percent. UCA senior Jarvis Garner of Conway had a frustrating end to his college career going 3 of 16 from the field on the way to nine points.
