NORMAN, Okla. — Tanesha Maxwell won the 60-meter dash on Saturday to lead the University of Central Arkansas women to a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the University of Oklahoma’s Mosier Indoor Facility.
Maxwell, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., ran a time of 7.50 to win the event and break her school record of 7.52 set last year. UCA’s 63.5 points was the best since moving into the SLC in 2006-07. The UCA men finished ninth with 11 points. Stephen F. Austin won both the men’s and women’s championships.
Sam Houston State was runnerup on the women’s side, followed by McNeese State, UCA, Oral Roberts, Lamar, Northwestern State, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. On the men’s side, Sam Houston was also second, followed by McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State, Oral Roberts, Lamar, A&M-CC and UCA.
Jasmine Ellis finished 11th in total points with 14.5 by finishing second in the pentathlon with a school-record 3,580 points, fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85), seventh in the long jump (5.55 meters). She was also part of the seventh-place finish in the 4x440 relay along with Jean Black, Khadijah Smith and Jordan Chadwick.Maxwell was also seventh in the 200 meters (24.99) and finished 14th overall in points with 12.
Smith set a school record with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (24.72), while Brooke Cassar was fourth in the 3,000 meters with a school-record 10:19.05 and Erika Setzler of Conway was ninth (10:40.27). Setzler was also ninth in the 5,000 meters (18:59.03), while Emily Carroll was 12th and Jill Carson 13th.
Anilah Bashir finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.83), followed by Maxwell in fifth and Black in sixth (8.86). UCA was fourth in the distance medley, with Chadwick, Smith, Cassar and Kayla Nehus running a school-record 12:19.12. Maya Minter tied for third in the high jump (1.65), while Megan Snow was seventh (1.60).
Behind Ellis in the pentathlon were Martin in sixth and Snow in seventh.
For the men, Chance Tanner finished in the 400 meters (48.89) and ninth in the 200 meters (22.64).
UCA’s distance medley team of Davidson, Louis, James Leonard and Elvis Stewart finished sixth in 10:25.67.
Daniel Reese tied for 10th in the pole vault (4.62).
