Hendrix teams defeat John Brown in tennis

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Hendrix College men’s tennis team earned their first victory of the season on Friday, defeating John Brown University, 6-3, at Burns Park.

 


 
The Warriors (1-3) picked up a pair of doubles win to open the match. The No. 1 duo of sophomores Bob Berardi and Robert Sheets defeated Alex Baker and Cameron McLendon 8-1. Senior Udai Garimella and sophomore Nick Berardi topped Colton Cheek and Blake Zoellner 8-2 at the second spot.


 
Hendrix also won each of their top four singles matches. Garimella used a third set tiebreaker to beat Baker 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-1) at No. 2 singles. Sheets swept McLendon 6-0, 6-0 in the first spot. At number three, Bob Berardi downed Luke Pascoe 6-3, 6-1 and Nick Berardi beat Zoellner 7-5, 6-2 at the fourth spot.

In women's play, Hendrix won, 5-4.

 
 
The Warriors (1-3) picked up a pair of wins in doubles to start the match. Senior Arden Brazzeal and freshman Madison Schallhorn defeated the Golden Eagle (0-2) top duo of Michelle Caneday and Leah Engstrom 8-6. Junior Saranya Prathibha and sophomore Hannah Smashey won the second doubles flight 8-1 over Kellie Mowrer and Marissa Russmann.


 
Brazzeal defeated Mowrer 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles and Prathibha won 6-1, 6-0 over Caneday at the second spot. Smashey’s 6-1, 7-5 fourth singles win against Prieb sealed the win for Hendrix.


 
The Warriors will be back in action on Sunday, hosting University of the Ozarks at Laurel Park.
