Lady Mustangs surge past Hendrix women

Central Baptist College had a little more kick Tuesday night in winning what was characterized as “The Battle of Conway.”

The Lady Mustangs (7-4) forced the Hendrix women into 27 turnovers and 20 points off turnovers on the way to a 54-41 victory at Reddin Fieldhouse.

The Warriors fell to 0-14.

Both teams were cold from the field.

The Warriors shot 26 percent (15-of-58) from the field, went 5-of-21 from 3-point range and 6-of-16 from the free-throw line. The Lady Mustangs shot 28 percent (19-of-67), 3-of-14 from outside and 13-of-20 at the free-throw line. CBC had a 53-48 rebound advantage as well as an 18-13 edge in steals.

Alyssa Drake led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points, three assists and eight steals. Kayla Gardner had nine points and seven rebounds and Bre’Anna Hobbs scored five points and pulled down nine boards. Chelsea Gregory had 10 points off the bench.

Junior forward Katie Coughran led Hendrix with a career-high 11 points to go with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Sophomore forward Lindsay Drillette and freshman forward Katy Gallien each grabbed person-best 12 reounds. Freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler hit a trio of 3-pointers for nine points and recorded three steals.

Junior center Jamie Tate, scored six points and had two steals to go with nine rebounds in 15 minutes in the second half. Tate now has 755 career rebounds, breaking the old Hendrix record of 753 held by Christina Byler (2007-11).

Hendrix will return to Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday when its host Rhodes College at 2 p.m. in a women-men doubleheader.
