Posted: September 2, 2012 - 5:42pm

A comeback effort by the Hendrix women's soccer team  fell short in a 4-2 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler at Warrior Field on Sunday.

The visiting Patriots (1-0) started off with a 3-0 lead in the first 17 minutes, but the Warriors (1-1) responded with two goals early in the second half.

The game remained 3-2 until UTT’s Lindsey Edwards scored an insurance goal with 5:22 left in the game.

April Goodman scored in the fifth minute  on a pass from Charity Shipman, putting the Patriots up 1-0. Shipman found the net in the 15th minute and Chestley Strother scored in the 17th to go up 3-0.

Warrior senior forward Mel Roach beat keeper Macy Hurley in the 53rd minute after senior Rebecca Rahn’s pass split the defense. Rahn scored 5:23 later on a right side pass from senior defender Emilia Bussard, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

For the game, UTT outshot Hendrix 24-6 and had an 11-4 shots on goal advantage.

Hurley came up with two saves for the Patriots. Senior Megan Childress had two saves in 25 minutes for the Warriors and freshman Rachel Zweig had five stops in 65 minutes of action.

Hendrix will play Ouachita Baptist Univerity on Tuesday in Arkadelphia.
