The Hendrix College women’s tennis team earned their first win of the 2011-12 season, edging John Brown, 5-4, at the Mabee Center Friday night.
The visiting Lady Golden Eagles (0-2) won two of the three doubles matches, with the Warriors’ (1-3) only win coming from junior Arden Brazzeal and sophomore Caroline Kelley topping Marissa Podgorski and Tiffany Prieb 8-3 at the No. 2 spot.
Hendrix rebounded to win four of the six singles matchups. Brazzeal downed Michelle Caneday 6-2, 6-0 in NO. 1 singles and sophomore Saranya Prathibha defeated Kellie Mowrer 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. A pair of freshmen also came through for the Warriors. In No. 3 singles, Hannah Smashey rolled over Leah Engstrom 6-0, 6-1 and Nora Lovaas topped Poedgorski 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.
