Softball signing

Greenbrier’s Brittany Merritt has joined the Williams Baptist College softball program. She was a four-year letter-winner in softball and was twice voted all-conference. She was a member of Greenbrier’s 5A state championship team two years ago and was voted the team’s best infielder last season. She will be joining a Lady Eagle squad that is ranked 18th in the NAIA and has won a share of the last two regular season American Midwest Conference championships. “We believe it takes a special person on and off the field to compete for Williams Baptist College; Brittany fits that mold perfectly,” said Williams coach Eric Newell. Mark Moyer, a redshirt freshman from Russellville who missed the 2016 season with an arm injury, went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out four to record UCA’s first complete game of the season to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a run-rule, 10-0 victory New Orleans University in the runner game of the three-game series Sunday at Bear Stadium.
