IRVING, Texas — Hendrix College junior Nick Heathscott of St. Joseph recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards to led the Warriors to a 71-59 victory over University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center.
The Warriors (4-6) outrebounded the Crusaders, 40-28. Hendrix hit a season-best 88.0 percent (22-of-25) from the free-throw line. The Warriors also managed to limit its turnovers to just 11.
Ryan Rizos ignited a 21-2 run as the Warriors took command of the game with a 21-2 run in the first half.
Heathscott was 7-of-17 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He pulled down nine defensive rebounds and two offensive boards. Sophomore Jaren Riley was just two points off his season-high performance against LeTourneau on Thursday, Dec. 30. Riley tallied 16 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. Junior Ammon Martin added nine points and two steals.
Hendrix returns home to host Rust College on Tuesday.
WOMEN
IRVING, Texas — Hendrix College’s offensive struggles continued in its 59-47 loss to University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors shot under 28 percent from the field for the second consecutive game and have shot under 30 percent in three of their last four contests.
Hendrix jumped to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes, however, Dallas answered with a 16-2 run to earn the only lead change it would need. The Crusaders led the rest of the way.
Junior Avery Roller scored five points in less than a minute to bring the Warriors to within two points, 31-29, with 16:55 left. Dallas pulled away with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes. Hendrix came as close as seven points on one occasion the rest of the way.
Juniors Katy Ashley-Pauley of Conway and Caty Hensy led Hendrix with 10 points apiece. First year Jamie Tate paced the Warriors with six rebounds.
Hendrix continues Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday against Southwestern University at Georgetown, Texas.
