Lions claim SLC tourney title with 9-4 victory over Bears

Tournament MVP Tate Scioneaux tossed 5.1 scoreless innings of relief and Southeastern Louisiana touched University of Central Arkansas ace Bryce Biggerstaff for six runs in two innings on the way to a 9-4 victory in the Southland Conference baseball title game at Bear Stadium on Saturday.

Scioneaux pitched 11 scoreless innings in the tourney — against UCA and regular-season champion Sam Houston State.

The Lions (38-23), playing in the championship game for the third straight year and second against UCA (32-22) earn the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

The victory ended a niine-game winning streak by UCA.

Further details in Sunday's Log Cabin.

Four Bears, second baseman Chris Townsend, third baseman Nate Ferrell, center fielder Doug Votolato and pitcher Connor McClain of Conway were voted to the all-tournament team.
