UCA coaches work toward signing day

The University of Central Arkansas, building on the momentum of a 10-3 season and reaching the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs, is expected to sign 24 football players Wednesday on the first day of National Signing Day for fall sports.

 

UCA coaches, like others across the country, spent the dsy Tuesday trying to solidify commitments or developing a “Plan B” in some instances.

Included in the class are mid-term signeees defensive back Michael Ware, linebacker Reggio Dean, wide receiver Lester Wells and defensive lineman Jim Philistin from the junior college ranks.

The full class will be unveiled during a signing day reception from 5-7 p.m. at UCA Downtown. Coach Steve Campbell will comment on each recruit. Refreshments will be served.

Signing day events will also be held at Faulkner County high schools.

At Conway High at 2:30 p.m., tight end Jack Pillow and wide receiver Marquis Pleasant will sign with Ouachita Baptist University. Linebacker Nick Fletcher will sign with Henderson State.

At Conway Christian at 9:30 a.m.., linebacker Robbie Hogue and wide receiver Seth Smith will sign with Southern Arkansas University.

Because of a schedule conflict at the school, Greenbrier will celebrate National Signing Day at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Quarterback Carter Burcham will sign with Arkansas Tech. Cody Maxwell will sign to play soccer for Oklahoma Wesleyan. Payden Webb will solidify his commitment for basketball at Washington University in St. Louis, an NCAA III institution.
