Conway Christian gains 3A state volleyball title game

Conway High loses close one to Har-Ber

Conway Christian’s girls will play for the state Class 3A volleyball championship Saturday.


In an all-Faulkner County semifinal match Thursday at Paris High School, CCS defeated Mayflower, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16, in the semifinals. Wednesday night, Mayflower gained the matchup with CCS with a 25-13, 13-25, 25-23, 25-16 victory over Lavaca.


Conway Christian entered the state tourney has the top seed from the Central Region and defeated Jessieville and Crowley’s Ridge in straight sets on the way to the showdown with its county rival, which was the third seed out of the Central Region.


The state championship game between CCS and Paris is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Hot Springs’ Summit Arena, the final match of state championship games in the five classicifications of volleyball.

At Springdale, Conway and Springdale Har-Ber engaged in about as tight of five-set semifinal match as possible Thursday before the Lady Wildcats eliminate the Lady Cats from the 7A tournament for the second straight year.


Har-Ber, playing on its home court, won 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12.
The Lady Cats, who finished 28-7 and were the champs of 7A Central, defeated Har-Ber (36-4) in four sets earlier in the season. Har-Ber ousted the Lady Cats at Buzz Bolding Arena in the quarterfnals last season.


For Conway, Aly Brinkley had 20 kills and three blocks. Anna Lee Drennan added 19 kills, 10 digs and three acees. Aryn Blumenberg had 53 assists. Holly Stewart had 16 digs and four aces. Hailey Weber added 15 digs and three aces.
