Sports roundup: UCA volleyball, Hendrix golf and tennis, Greenbrier volleyball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Missouri State (11-9) shut down the University of Central Arkansas attack Monday on the way to a volleyball victory in three sets, only the second loss of the season for the Sugar Bears.

The Sugar Bears (19-2)came into Monday night’s match leading the Southland Conference with a hitting percentage of .282, but they managed only .131 on the night. Central Arkansas failed to hit over .200 in any set during the match. Taylor Hammonds was the only Central Arkansas player to hit higher than .200 for the match, hitting .294 on her way to seven kills. Jessica Hays lead UCA in kills, with 17. She added 12 digs, a block, and an assist.

Central Arkansas hosts Oral Roberts at 5 p.m. Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Hendrix College women’s golf team finished the fall season in 22nd place at the Southern Shootout at Highland Park Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.

The Warriors recorded a two-round score of 402-418-820 on the par 70 course.

Senior Brie Seebinger paced Hendrix with a 92-93-185, tying for 106th. Sophomore Kelsi McClure finished 116th with a 99-104-203. Junior Lizzy Consenza followed in 119th at 102-105-207 and junior Liz Pursley was 123rd with a 109-116-225.

Lee University won the tournament with a two-round score of 587.

SEARCY, Ark. – The Hendrix College men’s tennis team lost their final fall match to Harding University 9-0.

The visiting Warriors (0-2) only won four games off the NCAA Division II powerhouse Bisons (1-1).

In No. 1 doubles, the Warrior tandem of senior Udai Garimella and sophomore Robert Sheets lost to Kittibodee Singnil and Greenbrier’s Jon Mark Rowden 8-2. Sheets lost to Singnil 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles and Rowden defeated Garimella 6-0, 6-1 at the second slot.

Greenbrier’s volleyball team lost twice last week to Harrison and Morrilton.

Harrison won, 21-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-12. MacKenzie Neumeier had five kills was 14 of 16 on serves with four aces and three blocks for the Lady Pantheres. MacKenzie Batterton had four kills. Savannah Baker, Makenzi Burrow, Payton Starkey were other service leaders. Marlo Stacey had 23 digs.

Greenbrier won the game, 25-19, 13-25, 15-5. Service leaders were Cameron Roberts, Heather Wilcox, Katie Jones and Sarah Langston.

Morrilton defeated the Lady Panthers, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15, 16-25, 15-7.

Neumeier had six kills was 12 of 14 on serves, with 18 assists and 50 of 55 on sets. Starkey was 10 of 10 on serves with six assists. Batterton had 12 kills. Other outstanding players were Savannah Baker, Marissa Hollenbaugh, Burrow and Stacey.

Morrilton won the JV game, 26-24, 26-28, 15-13. Jones had six kills and Baker four. Roberts, Wilcox and Langston were service leaders.
