University of Central Arkansas sophomore wide receiver Dezmin Lewis was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts against Bacone College on Saturday.
Lewis, from Mesquite, Texas, scored two special teams touchdowns in UCA’s 70-3 win over Bacone. He returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a score in the opening minute of the second quarter, then scooped up a snap that went over the Bacone punter’s head and took it 18 yards for another touchdown in the third period.
Lewis also caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wynrick Smothers to complete his three-touchdown day.
TUNICA, Miss. — The Hendrix College men’s golf team opened the 2012-13 season with a 16th-place finish at the Rhodes College Men’s Fall Classic here Sunday.
The Warriors fired a one-round score of 324.
Monday’s final round was rained out.
Junior Travis Weeks of Beebe led Hendrix with a 78, tying for 55th. Sophomore Cory Zeigler and John Weirich tied for 65th place by each shooting an 80. Freshman Logan Taylor made his collegiate debut with an 86, finishing in a tie for 86th place.
The Warriors will be back in action next Sunday and Monday at the Southern Athletic Association Fall Preview in Oneonta, Ala.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Travelers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have extended their minor league agreement through the 2014 season.
“For 12 years our fans have seen some of the best young talent in all of the minors playing for the Travelers,” said Meeks, Travs’ president president. “Moving forward we believe in the vision that (Angels general manager) Jerry Dipoto and (assistant general manager) Scott Servais have for the Angels both at the Major League and Minor League levels. The Travelers want to be a part of that vision.”
