The Sideline: Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association Clinic; Conway Running Club

The first clinic sponsored by the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association will feature several notable college coaches.

The clinic will be Thursday, Sept. 20, at Cabot High School’s gymnasium.

Teaching various aspects of coaching will be Joe Kleine, Arkansas-Little Rock assistant (post play) Joe Foley, UALR women’s coach (motion offense); Tim Floyd, veteran college and professional coach who is now the head men’s coach at Texas-ElPaso (transition defense and zone offense); Vic Shaefer, head women’s coach at Mississippi State and longtime assistant and defensive coordinator for Texas A&M coach Gary Blair (man defense); Damon Stoudamaire, University of Memphis (individual player development).

The clinic will begin at 8:15 a.m. and continue until 5:15 p.m.

Cost is $10 for ArBCA members and $30 for non-members with $20 going toward membership). Each coach will receive a coaches notebook and ArBCA logo shirt. There will be drinks and snacks throughout the day. The price does not include lunch.

Registration applications should be sent to Cliff Garrison, l710 S. Salem, Apt. 6, Conway, 72034. Checks should be made to ArBCS and received no later than Sept. 17. Coaches can also register and pay at the door although organizers need to know of attendance in advance so they can prepare for the proper numbers.

The September Conway Running Club membership meeting will be from 7-8 p.m. Monday 7-8 p.m. at the Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center, 700 Salem Road.  The meeting is open to the public and child care is available.

Guest speakers Tom and Hobbit Singleton, the volunteer coaches for the Little Rock Marathon for the past eight years, will share their passion for running and what it means to them and the new and veteran runners they have impacted over the years.  Both are certified coaches through the Road Runners Club of America, Tom coaches the runners while Hobbit coaches the walkers. 

Eric Leamon from The Ride bicycle store will give an update on things happening in Conway that should make the city more bike, runner and walker friendly.

Conway Running Club meetings are held the second Monday of each month. CRC is a member of the Road Runners Club of America and is dedicated to promoting running, walking, and other fitness-related activities in the Conwayarea. Further information can be obtained at www. conwayrunning.com.
