The Mayflower Eagles finally get their chance to pick up a playoff victory on Friday, after the Arkansas Activities Association decided on Monday that the 3A state playoff would resume this week.
The Eagles’ first round contest is against the Lavaca Golden Arrows, the third seed from the 1-3A Conference.
“We’re ready to go. We were ready to go last week,” Mayflower coach Jed Davis said. “We’re excited and we’re just glad that we have a chance to play.”
Mayflower’s road trip to Lavaca is a three-and-a half hour bus ride, but Davis doesn’t expect the long trip to factor into the game. According to Davis, the Eagles’ stud running back, Demetris Lasker, is healthy and is expected to be around 90 percent at game time.
GREENBRIER
Greenbrier will host its second 5A state playoff game in as many weeks.
The Panthers (8-3) will attempt to slow down the nation's top-rated running back, Little Rock Christian's Michael Dyer, at Don Jones Stadium on Friday. Dyer rushed for more than 250 yards in the Warriors’ upset victory at Forrest City in last week’s first round game.
“We’re glad that we’re able to bring in the best running back state,” Greenbrier coach Randy Tribble said. “We’re going to line up and see how we can do and what to do to stop him.”
