Lady Cats advance to quarterfinals

Conway's Lady Cats surged into  a showdown with No. 1-ranked Fayetteville with a 73-44 romp over Springdale-Har on Wednesday in the first round of the 7A state tournament at Van Buren's Claire Bates Arena.

The Lady Cats (23-8) will play Fayetteville at 4 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the 2015 state title game.

Conway led 22-7 at the end of a quarter and 36-20 at the half.

"We won by about 30 in the state tournament and you can't ask for much more than that," said Conway coach Ashley Nance.

She praised Savannah Lowe and Asiyah Smith for their defensive efforts on Har-Ber's top scorers.

""They key was our triangle-and-two defense," Nance said. "They (the Lady Wildcats) are a lot better team than you think. Our girls have been here (state tournament). They are prepared."

Conway outrebounded Fayetteville, 50-36.
