Hendrix wins SAA women's title, earns NCAA berth

The Hendrix women's basketball team completed a strong run through the Southern Athletic Association tournament Sunday, winning the conference championship with a 60-55 victory Sunday over  Birmingham-Southern at Bill Battle Coliseum in Birmingham, Ala.

The victory over the SAA regular-season champions earns the Warriors a berth in the NCAA DIII Women's Tournament that will begin at campus sites.

The Warriors overcame an early 12-2 deficit and pulled within 27-24 of the Panthers at the half.

An inside basket by Mount Vernon's Heather Prowse propelled the Warriors to a 31-27 lead early in the third quarter.

From there, it ws a furious nip-and-tuck battle with neither team leading by more than three points.

An inside basket by Sara Dyslin gave the Warriors a 57-55 lead with 1:10 left. After a turnover and a missed shot, Prowse made three of four foul shots to clinch the victory and provide Hendrix's biggest lead of the afternoon.

Prowse led the Warriors with 20 points and nine rebounds. Dyslin had 13 and six rebounds. Madison Martin added nine points and seven rebounds.
