EL DORADO _ The University of Central Arkansas finished third overall and junior Lewis George was second on Tuesday at the ULM Duck Commander Intercollegiate played at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
George shot 75-72-77 for an 8-over 224, trailing only UNC-Wilmington’s Patrick Cover, who shot a 222.
UNCW won with a 916, followed by Louisiana Tech (923), UCA (309-304-323-926), UTSA (929), Arkansas State (930), Eastern Kentucky (932), Little Rock (933), Western Kentucky (934), ULM (937), Houston Baptist (945), Stephen F. Austin (948) and Southeastern Louisiana (962).
UCA senior Rodrigo Rivas tied for 15th place with rounds of 76-76-79-231. Freshman Miles Smith was 18th (77-78-77-232), senior Louis Tomlinson tied for 36th (81-78-80-239) and junior Luis Obiols tied for 54th (85-81-80).

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE _ The University of Central Arkansas women’s golf team finished runnerup on Tuesday at the Little Rock Golf Classic played at Diamante Country Club.
Junior Emma Svensson finished in a tie for fifth place overall after shooting rounds of 73-73-78 for an 8-over 224, four shots back of medalist Verena Gimmy of Missouri State. UCA finished just three strokes behind Missouri State, with rounds of 302-299-310 for a 911. MSU shot 301-305-302 for a 908.
UTEP was third (913), followed by Sam Houston State (914), Houston Baptist (915), Jacksonville State (916), Utah Valley (918), Oral Roberts (919), Arkansas State (920), ULM (936), Little Rock and Stephen F. Austin (937), Northern Iowa (940), UT Rio Grande Valley (945) and UT Arlington (949).
After Svensson, freshman Geraldine Wong shot 78-71-76-225 and tied for eighth place. Senior Fernanda Lira shot 77-75-76-118 and tied for 13th, while freshman Tasha Ainsley-Thomas shot 74-80-87-241 and tied for 61st. Freshman Brett Permann shot 79-83-80-242 and tied for 65th. Junior Sally Fridstrom was 81st (91-89-86-266) playing as an individual.
St. Joseph basketball
SHIRLEY — St. Joseph teams opened their basketball season here Monday with two narrow losses to Shirley.
The senior boys lost 56-50. Jack Briggler led with 12 points and Triple Williams added nine and nine rebounds. Spencer Pope had six rebounds.
“It was a mixed bag tonight,” said coach Brent Bruich. “We had lots of positives and lots of things we have to work on as a team and individually. But the things we have to clean up ae just some minor things that experience and playing more games can fix.
“We are a work in progress and will be all season but I like our potential an upside if we keep working hard and playing together.”
Shirley won the senior girls game, 39-36. Brooklyn Kordsmeier led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points. Alexis Roach added nine and seven rebounds. Piper Mullaney had eight points and six rebounds. Brianna Wells had seven points and Emily Briggler five assists.
St. Joseph won the junior girls game, 26-25.
