Vilonia third-grader gets First Tee Award

Jonah Smith, a third-grader at Vilonia Primary School is the July First Tee Participant of the Month by Community Service Inc.

He is the son of Chad and Traci Smith.

The program is coached by certified level II First Tee Coach Sam Taylor. “Jonah comes to each class with great focus and drive to become better player,” said Taylor. “I have seen him become more confident in himself and his golf game.”

He enjoys learning how to play golf. “Some of my favorite things are class competitions and practice with the driver,” he said. “My favorite core value is Confidence because I am confident that I am getting better in golf because of what I am learning in the CSI First Tee Program.”

His parents are supporters of the program, and have seen positive changes in their son since his enrollment. “Jonah has started exhibiting signs of owning the choices he makes. Not simply in regard to mental maturity, but with respect to moral responsibility toward others,” they said. “We are very proud of Jonah for his hard work, and thankful to First Tee for investing in children by reinforcing positive core values.”

Jonah is currently at the player level where he is learning about the First Tee Nine Core Values (Respect, Courtesy, Responsibility, Honesty, Sportsmanship, Confidence, Judgment, Perseverance and Integrity) and Essential Life Skills through the game of golf.

The CSI First Tee Program meets every Wednesday at the Arkansas Golf Center from 9:00-10:30 am. The program will transition to after school programing when school starts and be held from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Registration info for youngsters, ages 7-12, can be found at at csiyouth.com or 501-733-3938.
