Bears down No.1-seed McNeese

The University of Central Arkanasas advanced in the winners bracket of the Southland Conference baseball tournament Thursday night with a 5-3 victory over No. 1-seeded McNeese State at Sugar Land, Texas..

The Bears (33-24) will play a bracket final, scheduled for 7 Friday night, against either Houston Baptist or McNeese State (37-19).

UCA scored all five runs in the fifth on singles by Jansen McCurdy, Hunter Strong, Rigo Aguilar, Brooks Balisteri and Dusty Wright.

Mark Moyer gave up four hits in 4.1 innings while Brandon Hargerla picked up the save, allowing only one hit in 3.2 innings.

UCA’s Anderson SLC’s Student-Athlete of the Year

University of Central Arkansas junior volleyball player Samantha Anderson has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Year, while senior Megan Nash earned First Team all-conference honors and sophomore Elizabeth Armstrong was named to the Second Team.
